By looking at the CWI trends from 1975 to the present – a total of 37 years – we see that there are some areas of improvement, but there are also areas of significant decline in children’s well-being.

This year’s report, the 2013 Child Well-Being Index (CWI) tells us that though children and youth are more connected to their community and social institutions, that teenage births are down, as are violent crime victimization rates, educational attainment has basically flatlined, and all improvements in the economic well-being of families with children under the age of 18 since 1975 have been virtually wiped out.
