Each year in the United Stated, millions of low-income children go without seeing a dentist. This lack of care is largely driven by two different dentist shortages:
- An uneven distribution of dentists in many parts of the country affects people regardless of income or their type of insurance coverage.
- The relatively small number of dentists who participate in Medicaid means many low-income people are not getting dental care.
